The Job

Chesterfield, Missouri’s next City Administrator has an opportunity to lead a dynamic organization in a community that has become a role model of superior municipal service delivery, has a thriving business base, and residents who are proud to call this city of just 30 years home. The City Administrator, who will be only the second person to fill that role in Chesterfield’s history, is responsible for the general control, administration, and management of the City.

chesterfield logoThe City Administrator is appointed by the City Council with the approval of the Mayor and serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the City. Chesterfield is served by a Mayor, elected to a four-year term, and eight councilmembers who serve two-year terms. Two councilmembers each represent one of the community’s four wards.

The municipal organization is divided into five administrative areas under the supervision of the City Administrator: Finance and Administration, Police, Public Services, Community Services, and Economic Development. Fire service is provided to Chesterfield by two fire districts: the Monarch Fire Protection District and the Metro West Fire Protection District.

Chesterfield’s total FY2016 budget is $43,269,218; its general fund budget is $19,880,755. The City has 245 employees.

Requirements are a master’s degree in public administration, business administration or a closely related field and 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a local government organization. Preferred qualifications are strong financial management skills, significant economic development experience, and proven leadership in developing and working with a high-performing staff. Residency is not required. 

The salary range is $160,000 – $190,000, depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefit package.
