#ELGL17 Lowdown

You’re going to #ELGL17!

This post includes everything you need to know to get ready for #ELGL17 on May 11 and 12 in Detroit, Michigan, including all of the “extras” we have planned during your conference experience.

Ghost Bar Happy Hour – Wednesday, May 10

Arriving in Detroit on Wednesday? Join us for a spirited happy hour (ghost pun intended) at the Ghost Bar in downtown Detroit at 6:00. This free event is hosted by ResourceX, but does require a separate RSVP to attend.

Conference Kickoff – Thursday, May 11

#ELGL17 check in and registration opens at noon in the lobby of the David Whitney Hotel. Please arrive on time so we can welcome our conference kickoff speaker, Detroit Councilor Raquel Castañeda-López. We’ll also have your swag bags, name tags, and conference materials available so you’re ready to go for two days of #ELGL17 awesomeness.

Tours of Detroit – Thursday, May 11

We’re touring Detroit on Thursday afternoon. Buses leave the David Whitney Hotel at 2:00 for your tour. We’ll have snacks and drinks in the lobby for you to take with you before you leave. This experience is included in your #ELGL17 ticket price, thanks to sponsorships by Bang the Table and the Novak Consulting Group.

#ELGL17 Bowl-a-Rama – Thursday, May 11

Buses leave the David Whitney Hotel at 6:30 for the historic Detroit Garden Bowl, America’s oldest active bowling center. Dinner, drinks, and bowling are included in your #ELGL17 ticket price thanks to conference sponsorship by Seneca Systems.

Keynotes & Concurrent Sessions – Friday, May 12

Plot out your conference agenda before you arrive – we have keynotes and concurrent sessions, so you’ll have to pick and choose from this amazing conference lineup. We’ll also have the agendas available at the conference, but planning ahead is always a good idea.

Technology Learning Lab – Friday, May 12

Sign up to test drive the latest civic technology tools! These no-pressure demos give you a chance to meet with some of the most innovative companies working with government. When you sign up, we’ll assign you a time to meet up about the concepts you’re most interested in for your local government. Space is limited, sign up today!

Resume Review – Friday, May 12

It’s always a good time to give your resume and LinkedIn profile a check-up! Kevin Knutson from Management Partners will be available to review your resume and give you some tips and suggestions based on his work as a local government recruiter. Again, space is limited, sign up today!

Local Gov Price is Right – Friday, May 12

Come on down! This #ELGL17 social hour is on the rooftop of the Detroit Opera House. Can you guess the actual retail price of a new fire engine without going over? This is your chance to mix and mingle (we’ll have hosted drinks and food) and also strut your cost estimation skills. Food and drinks are included in your #ELGL17 ticket price thanks to conference sponsorship by ICMA.

Meals – Thursday & Friday

The following meals are covered as part of your #ELGL17 admission: Thursday bus snacks, Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast, Friday lunch, Friday social hour. We’ll also have a coffee and tea bar all day on Friday at the David Whitney.

What Should I Wear?!

Feel free to wear your favorite bowling shirt (or glove) on Thursday night. All other events are business casual.
