The Fire Department

The Hillsboro Fire Department (HFD) is an all-hazard, all-risk professional department providing excellence in fire suppression, special operations rescue, emergency medical services, fire prevention, and education. The ISO 2-rated department, serves the community from five stations covering just over 25 square miles. The Fire Department has mutual aid and automatic aid agreements with all surrounding fire agencies and Metro West Ambulance provides emergency medical transport. With an annual budget of $20.3 million, the HFD employs 112 of which, 100 are sworn personnel. In 2016, the Department had 10,716 Emergency Incident Responses with 6,458 of those Emergency Medical Responses. The Fire Department enjoys strong community support, demonstrated most recently by the local option levy renewal with 82% voter approval. For fiscal year 2017-18, the Fire Department budget is expected to increase to $23.1 million and the department will add 6 firefighters.

Qualifications

At least 15 years’ experience as a fire Battalion Chief, Operations Chief or equivalent management position including 3 years’ leadership experience. Knowledge of trends and advances in firefighting and fire prevention skills required. Current knowledge of fire suppression, fire prevention, and firefighting techniques, including all related equipment is essential. A Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Fire Administration, or a closely related field, and/or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
