The City Council of Wimberley Texas is currently looking for an experienced local government manager to be the next City Administrator. A short 20-mile drive on Ranch Road 12 northwest of San Marcos and Interstate Highway 35, brings you to the picturesque community of Wimberley.

The community lies at the confluence of the Blanco River and Cypress Creek and is 45 miles southwest of Austin and 60 miles northeast of San Antonio. The City of Wimberley is a Type A General Law City, created under the Local Government Code and operating under the enabling legislation of the State of Texas. The City is governed by a City Council composed of a Mayor and five Councilmembers, all elected at large for two-year staggered terms.

The Council has established the position of City Administrator by the adoption of Ordinance 2001-026. Under this ordinance the City Administrator is designated as the chief administrator of the City and is responsible for the proper and efficient administration of the affairs and the day to day operations of the City.

The City Administrator oversees an organization with a Fiscal 2017-2018 budget of $1.490 million and 9 employees. The City is organized into operating departments including Administration, Legal, Building, Public Safety, Municipal Court, Public Works, Water/Wastewater, Community Center and Parks. Solid waste collection and disposal is provided by a private contractor.

The City contracts for police services with the Hays County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office. Fire service is provided by the Wimberley Volunteer Fire Department. Emergency Medical Services are provided to the citizens by the San Marcos Hays County EMS Service. Water Service is provided by the Wimberley Water Supply Corporation and Aqua Texas. Electric service is provided by Pedernales Electric Cooperative.

Interested candidates must have at least Five (5) years of top level management experience with municipal concentration preferred such as city administrator/manager, assistant city administrator/manager, or senior executive management in an organization of comparable complexity to the City of Wimberley.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, business management, engineering or a related field. A Master’s Degree is a plus. Membership/Certification such as International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is highly preferred. The Council will expect the City Administrator to reside within the 78676 zip code.
