Title: “No Comment” — and Other Stupid Things You Should Never Say to Media
Presenter: Mike Moskovitz, Public Affairs Manager, Willamalane Park and Recreation District
Location: Willamalane Center, 250 South 32nd Street, Springfield, OR 97478 – Heron Room
Description: This mini-workshop will equip participants with some fundamental tools needed to deal with the media professionally and productively. This crash course in media relations will provide a better understanding of how reporters work and how to make your involvement with them work better. Participants will get practical tips on what to do and what not to do, how to prepare for a media interview, learn your “rights” with the media, interview traps to avoid and more!

Presenter: Sarah Medary, Assistant City Administrator, City of Eugene
Location: Atrium Building, 99 W 10th Ave., Sloat Conference Room
Description: Participants will be treated to hear about some of the bigger issues the city administrator’s office is grappling with and a large amount of time will be provided for questions and answers. Ms. Medary was recently recognized at ICMA’s 98th Annual Conference and awarded the Assistant Excellence in Leadership Award.

Title: Community Rhythms and Public Leadership
Presenter: Elena Fracchia, United Way of Lane County
Location: United Way of Lane County (3171 Gateway Loop, Springfield)
Description: All communities have an ingrained narrative which can help to accelerate or block effective civic action. The key is to know the narratives at work in your community and the implications for moving ahead. Understanding the stages of community life (Community Rhythms) helps set the right expectations for change efforts that are essential to helping communities thrive. Come learn how to identify ways to act on specific community challenges and build community at the same time with the Community Rhythms Tool presented by United Way of Lane County.

Title: Behind the Curtain: Tour of the Hult Center and discover the important role the arts play in a community.
Presenter: Tour Guide provided by SHO (Support Hultcenter Operations)
Location: The Hult Center, the corner of 6th and Willamette. Meet at the lobby information desk.
Description: We’ll take a backstage guided tour of the Hult Center’s Silva Concert Hall and Soreng Theater and discuss the Center’s operations, community outreach programs, and role in the Eugene community.
Optional: bring your own lunch from 11:15-12:00 and catch the Lobby SHOcase concert featuring Timothy Patrick.
