Congress Ends Stalemate, Passes Bill – Congress passed legislation to avert the fiscal cliff. But the bill, which blocked most impending tax increases and postponed spending cuts largely by raising taxes on upper-income Americans, left a host of issues unresolved.
Appalling Fiscal Cliff Debate Still Leaves Cities At Risk – The following statement is from National League of Cities (NLC) President Marie Lopez Rogers, Mayor of Avondale, AZ, in response to passage of legislation to avert the fiscal cliff.
Oregon delegation splits votes on fiscal cliff deal – Interestingly, Oregon is the only state featuring three Democrats who voted against the deal — Earl Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio, and Kurt Schrader. Suzanne Bonamici and Greg Walden voted in favor, as did Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley in the Senate.
New city administrator starts Jan. 25 in Camas – Following a successful visit by local government officials to Cloverdale, Calif., Nina Regor has been officially hired as the new Camas city administrator.
At State and Federal Levels, Women Rule in New Hampshire – New Hampshire, which again chose a woman to be governor, will also become the first state in history to have an all-female delegation in Washington.
