Virginia Beach Named Best-Run City in America

Virginia Beach today was named the best-run city in America by 24/7 Wall St., a financial news website. The staff examined the 100 largest cities in the United States, reviewing the local economy, fiscal discipline and standard of living in each city.  Among the criteria considered were crime, poverty, education and credit rating. “For the most part, the best-run cities manage their debt and resources well,” the website reported “The worst-run cities do not.”

New law encourages hiring of federal interns

President Obama on Dec. 31 signed a bill that seeks to encourage federal agencies to hire more interns into full-time jobs. The Federal Internship Improvement Act, which was attached to the National Defense Authorization Act and sponsored by Reps. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., and Brian Bilbray, R-Calif., requires agencies to appoint an internship coordinator.
