Youngstown Board of Education – Maintenance Crew

What was your: undergraduate institution? Graduate institution? What was/were your degree(s) in? 

Ashland University (BA, Political Science), Cleveland State University – Levin College (Master of Public Administration)

What class(es) (if any) are applicable to your job today? 

Most of my MPA classes are relevant

Do you have a work or life motto? What is it? 

I approach my work/career like I have to earn my spot everyday. I never rest on my laurels. And, I show genuine respect for everyone regardless of position, rank or title.

What book are you currently reading? Would you recommend it? 

I currently read a lot of children’s books to my 3 year old daughter. I highly recommend them.

Other than ELGL – do you belong to any other professional associations? Which one(s)? 

ICMA, NFBPA, OPRA

What’s the best networking advice for job seekers you’ve heard or shared? 

Be prepared and competent. Be diligent. Find a good mentor.

What’s the fastest way to NOT get a job or internship with you? (e.g. what should potential applicants avoid doing if they were to ever interview with you for a position). 

Be arrogant. Feel entitled. Be unprepared.

Why should an undergraduate student consider a career working in local government?

Because it is a very rewarding career based on helping people. We impact lives in a tangible way on a daily basis.
