Unofficial Picture Show: Defining Sustainability

In July, ELGL hosted a Sustainability Chat with Portland Mayor Charlie Hales and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. Both cities are known for their success in implementing sustainability measures. As we learned at the forum, Portland has framed the measures as “the right thing to do for the environment” while Indianapolis has stressed the cost savings from the efforts.

Oregonian Editorial Board member Len Reed moderated the discussion between the mayors. The discussion covered everything from defining sustainability, challenges to implementing initiatives, and a look ahead to challenges facing cities. Before the discussion, attendees were treated to a reception with their colleagues, the two mayors, and the First Ladys.
