Caitlin Lewis is meeting by the moment by connecting former federal employees to careers in local and state government. As executive director of Work for America, Lewis is a voice advocating for public servants and encouraging leaders at the state and local level to hire public servants leaving federal government employment.
Work for America is a nonprofit that helps state and local governments recruit and retain talent. Through its Civic Match program, which connects federal workers and campaign staff with roles in state and local governments throughout the United States, it's fulfilling an urgent need. According to recent data from Civic Match, 76% of more than 5,000 federal workers surveyed said they are now more likely to work in state and local government
While Work for America has provided a lifeline to federal workers facing unemployment, the organization is also working to promote public service as a more desirable career path as local governments nationwide face widespread retirements in the years ahead.
Throughout her career, Caitlin has consistently inspired others to pursue public-sector careers, based on her experience from her own time in government. Prior to Work for America, she served in local, state, and federal government, including at New York City Hall and in the White House Liaison Office of the USDA.
