Before you leave for #ELGL17, what’s the biggest project facing you at work?

Between my course load at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and responsibilities at the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, my biggest project now is completing my capstone research paper, where I am considering the economic impact of increasing the supply of affordable housing in a community.

Window, middle, or aisle – which is your preferred seat on an airplane?

Window all the way! Love watching take off, landing, seeing the country from above, and if I’m lucky a sunrise or sunsets. Aisle was a close second. I am curious to who prefers the middle.

When I think of Detroit, I think about…

Music and cars! I’ve never been, so I’m excited to see and learn about the area.

What’s the best article or book that you’ve read about Detroit?

Students take to the city on Detroit Partnership Day is an article I recently read and enjoyed from the Michigan Daily by Maya Goldman. It reported a recent servicing learning day that brought over 900 University students from multiple institutions together. I have a soft spot for volunteering. Not to get too cliché or cheesy, but I believe there is so much that can be gained and learned through service. It not only addresses a community issue, but also can change individual perspectives. I also think the solutions are found when people come together together. The article mentioned students taking on projects focused on revitalization such as urban gardens and cleanup. I’m excited for the tour on Thursday, and eager to learn more about innovative projects the city has going on.

Detroit is the home of ‘Motown’. If you started a Motown group, what would you name it?

The Youngmeyer Fire!

Who is the most famous person in your cell phone contacts?

I have two local city council members’ contacts. I participate in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs’ Student Association (PASA) and chair the Professional Development committee. One networking event I organized brought in professionals working in local government, and I was lucky enough to be able to have two council members attend. In the process planning logistics I received contact information to ensure each found the room.

What question(s) should we have asked?

For fun, I love to travel and just try new things. A few years ago, I stumbled upon roller derby while living in Helena, Montana. Did not skate growing up, but there’s a quick learning curve when you’re learning the sport. I hung up my skates when I started grad school to avoid having to use the student health insurance more than necessary. I know how to hold my ground!
