When I think of Kansas City, I think about…

Mark Funkhouser

The biggest issue facing local government is…

One big issue facing local government in general is in civic trust and engagement.  It’s an issue that trickles down from the global and federal level, and that everyone wants to improve upon.  Citizen surveys are one way that local governments can begin to address this challenge, which is multifaceted and anything but simple.

My pro tip for getting the most out of professional conferences…

Talk to as many people as you can.  You will learn a lot of valuable things from peers and vendors and develop professional relationships that will help you to be even better at what you do.

If I had to create a presidential ticket with my top two mentors, I’d select…

Pat Martel who I admire greatly and who always takes time to chat with me every time I see her … and Julia Sandidge who was my former TV news advisor and is a college professor.
