When I think of Kansas City, I think about…

jazz and fountains.

The biggest issue facing local government is…

I think a big challenge is in diversity.  Local governments need and want to do a better job of integrating people of various backgrounds into their leadership, staff and communities.

My pro tip for getting the most out of professional conferences…

The ICMA conference is one of the largest events for local government professionals, and there is always a lot of activity happening simultaneously.  Choose which sessions and events you want to attend ahead of time so that you can individualize your experience and get the most out of the conference.

If I had to create a presidential ticket with my top two mentors, I’d select…

The people who have mentored me were very important in my life.  They helped teach me and set me on the right track.  My mother is one of those people, Marjane Lois Hirsch Miller Riskind. And Gene V Glass, American statistician and researcher, was an important mentor for me in terms of my education.
