Mixin’ It Up with Agata Drygas, Illinois Department of Labor

Posted on September 21, 2015

For the second year in a row, ELGL will be co-hosting an event with ICMA at the ICMA Conference. This year we’re bringing a couple of pianos and booking a much larger room. More than 500 local government professionals from all areas of local government will attend. Registration will continue until we reach maximum capacity. We recommend registering as soon as possible. Let’s get prepared for the ELGL and ICMA “Mixing in Perfect Harmony” event by hearing from our guests.

If you could pick any three bands (dead or alive) as the opening act for the Dueling Pianos event, which would you choose?

  • Billy Joel
  • The Beatles
  • U2

When I learned the ICMA Conference was being held in Seattle, I thought…
…I thought…this is a great start to a transition from state to local government!
I knew local government was the career for me…
…I realized that I wanted to make a meaningful contribution to the growth and shaping of a community where I lived and worked.breaking-glass-ceiling-e1409686294687

#13Percent Diversity Initiative:  Does local government have an issue? What, specifically, can we do to increase diversity in the workforce?
Hiring staff that reflects the community’s changing demographics, developing coaching programs to enable all employees to accomplish their hightest level of potential, and breaking the glass ceiling to allow women and minorities to take the lead roles when qualified.
The Seahawks lost the Super Bowl by passing instead of running from the 1-yard line. Give us your best tip(s) for rebounding from difficult situations.
Conducting a full blown analysis to understand what has failed and why, adjusting goals or making changes to the way our services are being provided, looking out for new opportunities, and most of all learning how to better strategize to meet future needs of the community we are serving.
