The Hottest Takes Ever with Ashley Trim, Davenport Institute

Posted on November 3, 2016

Everyone has a “hot take” these days from the talking heads at ESPN to political pundits filling the air on cable. ELGL cannot (and will not) be left out. We are asking new members to give us their hot takes on an array of issues.

What reminds you of childhood?
Any song by The Highwaymen – my family took a lot of road trips and I often fell asleep in the back of the car on some highway in the middle of America listening to Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard.

What was the last gift you gave someone?

November makes me think of the Holidays, so on the first of the month I bought my baby nephew a little hat knit with reindeer antlers.

Three facts about yourself the we wouldn’t find on your LinkedIn profile.

  • I love surfing
  • I’m half-Canadian (and increasingly proud of it)
  • My nerd credentials started early – I won a chess tournament in 2nd grade. . . and I think I could probably still beat most second graders.

If you were to get rid of one state in the U.S., which would it be and why?

Oklahoma – only because I know that will annoy some of my best friends.

Who or what motivates you to be successful?

I know the two things you aren’t supposed to talk about when you are first introduced are religion and politics, but my honest answer is that I believe that men and women are created in the Image of God – doing whatever task is before me creatively and to the best of my ability is one way of living into that Image.

What question(s) should we have asked you?

What hyper-popular food can you just not bring yourself to eat even though you want to be cool?

The answer is brussel sprouts. Also blue cheese.
