Word on the Street

  • My Nominations for Best City Halls is Vancouver, Washington. The building is beautiful inside and out. It’s contemporary with soaring public spaces, a fireplace in the comfortable lobby, meeting spaces that are roomy, and a Council hearing room that is welcoming. And, there’s a roof garden!!!!

  • My Nominations for Best City Hall is Vancouver, Washington’s City Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art, LEED certified building that houses city operations on four floors and leased space for private companies on two more floors. It’s located in the heart of the city, across the street from our “town square,” the award winning Esther Short Park. The other side of the building has views of the magnificent Columbia River and it’s only a block from the fantastic waterfront redevelopment project that is reclaiming industrial wasteland into a vibrant mixed use community. The internal features are amazing, starting with the spacious and inviting lobby with seating for citizens to hang out or have casual meetings. Employee amenities include showers, bicycle storage, a lunchroom, coffee bars on each floor, and much more. It’s also a terrific deal for the taxpayers, because the private company that built it lost it in foreclosure and the city bought it for less than half its appraised value. The city consolidated operations from five separate buildings which not only made everyone more efficient but saved $1 million in annual lease costs.

  • My Nominations for Best City Hall is Vancouver City Hall (Washington). Vancouver City Hall is a striking work of modern and green-friendly architecture. The City Hall is positioned directly across from Esther Short Park, the oldest public square in the state of Washington. The park was named one of the top 10 public spaces in the nation by the American Planning Association for 2014. The City Hall is also centrally located within walking distance of breweries, restaurants, and the 5+ mile Waterfront Renaissance Trail. Vancouver’s City Hall continues to be the epicenter of government, community and progress for Washington State’s fourth-largest city.

  • My Nominations for Best City Hall is Vancouver City Hall, Vancouver, WA. Vancouver City Hall is a beautiful, 6-story, LEED – certified building. Its floor to ceiling windows provide views of the Columbia River to the south and Esther Short Park to the north. It has a large, 2-story high lobby with furniture and a fireplace that invites the community in. And it is located in the heart of downtown, in close proximity to Main Street and many shops, restaurants and brewpubs. City Hall is a wonderful space for City employees to work and interact with the public, and it even serves as an art gallery on First Fridays, when the doors stay open late so the public can view the newest installment in a rotating public art series.
