AAEAAQAAAAAAAAJkAAAAJGU4OGJmNGYxLTViYmYtNGRkZS1hMWQzLTFiMzM2OGY4ODRlOAWelcome to our new member feature. We’ve all heard the excuse “I’m too busy” so we’ve simplified our feature to illicit short, meaningful responses for our new members. As a side note, ELGL is adamantly opposed to the excuse, “I’m too busy.”

Audrey Shore (LinkedIn and Twitter) is a student in the UNC MPA program. She also serves as an intern for the UNC School of Government Office of Development. Audrey has an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University.

What I Am Reading:

Just finished the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King and am debating whether to start reading “I hope They Serve Beer in Hell” or “Guns, Germs, and Steel” next.
What I Am Watching:

  • Game of Thrones
  • Silicon Valley
  • Last Tonight With john Oliver

Not a lot of time for TV, mostly just watching HBO on Sunday.
What I Am Thinking About the Apple Watch:
Until I can even consider affording one, I’m not interested; even then don’t know if I want to be that plugged in.
What I Want From ELGL:
An opportunity to network and meet people that work in the fields I am interested in, make some new friends, and listen and learn from people doing interesting, impactful work.
What I Wish Local Government Did Better:
I wish local government explained itself better to the public. People in MPA programs, local government, and those with the ability to be well informed can often find the answers but many people do not have the same luxury. I hate to use the word transparent because its overuse is diluting the meaning but the lack of CLEAR communication between the public and local governments is a big issue.
What I Am Afraid Of:
I’m terrified of free-standing heights. I love to fly and ride roller coasters but put me on a ladder or on a cliff when hiking, and I am out.
What I Wish I Was Doing (Instead of Completing This Questionnaire):
I wish I was working on planning my trip to Thailand this summer!!
What I Consider As My Career Accomplishments:
So far, it is getting into the UNC MPA program and working really hard to earn the summer internship and graduate assistant-ship I wanted since I got to UNC.
What I Am Listening To:
My playlist changes every day, but today into work it was Chet Faker, Bad Suns, Hozier, and Santigold (she isn’t thematically similar but great for getting ready to start the day).
What I Wish People Knew About Me: 1
I am a falafel connoisseur and IPA lover. I am also not as much of a workaholic as people think, nor am I always studying, as some believe.
What I Am Wishing Would Go Away:
Taylor Swift, crops tops, and most of all ignorance and prejudice surrounding race and LGBTQ issues.
What I Think of Professional Associations:
This is the first one I have been in besides the student chapter of ICMA so I will let you know!
What I Am Doing This Summer:
I am working in the office of development at the School of Government and at the end of summer I am spending two weeks in Thailand with one of my best friends.
What I Wished You Asked Me:
I wish you asked what my idea of a perfect day was, because I love quoting the scene from Miss Congeniality. And I also have a really good answer for the typical ice breaker “what is one interesting fact about yourself.”
