Occupational Fraud – Is Your Government at Risk?

You may have heard that employee fraud is on the rise. But did you know that most of that crime comes from highly trusted employees who have worked for their organizations for 5+ years? Small organizations, including local governments, are disproportionately victimized by occupational fraud — and not only in the Finance department but other areas as well. Join us for a quick, one-hour look at identifying and preventing employee fraud. Topics to be covered include:

  • What are the most common ways that employees embezzle funds?
  • What are some affordable, easily implemented strategies and processes to reduce your risk?
  • What should you do if you suspect employee fraud?

Brenda Bartlett Bio

Brenda Bartlett has served in public accounting since 1998. Ms. Bartlett is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Oregon. In 1998, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oregon Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems/Accounting. She was awarded the Bronze Award for Outstanding Achievement on the November 1998 Uniform Examination for Certified Public Accounts by the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Ms. Bartlett has been involved with a variety of audit engagements including Municipal, not-for-profit, and private industry clients. Private industry audits include those in the software development industry, federally-subsidized research and development entities, computer hardware and support providers, and clients who specialize in web-site design and software maintenance and support.

Brenda began her career in public accounting with Stephen Greer & Associates in 1998, left us to go into private industry and municipal accounting, then re-joined SGA in 2011. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants.
