ELGL Standing Committees

ELGL's standing committees are key links between the brightest minds in local government and the services that ELGL provides to help public servants manage a changing profession. The committees give direction for ELGL's services by guiding content, events, and communication with members.

Adopted by the ELGL Board of Directors on March 24, 2023, amended on May 10, 2024.


Event Planning and Coordination Committee

Purpose:

The Event Planning and Coordination Committee will manage the in-person and digital events offered by ELGL. This includes the planning, coordination with speakers or attendees, and scheduling. The work of the committee may include coordination with the Content and Training Opportunities Committee as needed.

Authority:

The Event Planning and Coordination Committee shall be an advisory body to the Executive Board and have the authority to perform the organization, management, and execution of digital and in-person events for ELGL. At least quarterly the committee will present event planning and scheduling to the Executive Board. Budget and contract approval must be authorized by the Executive Board.

The Committee shall meet upon the request of the Chair or any two (2) members of the Event Planning and Coordination Committee. A majority of the voting members of the Committee shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business at any duly called meeting of the Event Planning and Coordination Committee. The act of a majority of the members present at a duly called meeting at which a quorum is present shall be the act of the Event Planning and Coordination Committee.

Membership:

Up to nine (9) individuals may be appointed to the committee by the Executive Board. Up to three members of the committee shall be members of the Executive Board. The Chair of the committee will be appointed by the Executive Board.

Content and Communication Committee

Purpose:

The Content and Communication Committee shall provide oversight and guidance for the content offered to ELGL members. This includes planning, management of volunteers, and communication to members. The work of the committee may include coordination with the Event Planning and Coordination Committee as needed. 

Authority:

The Content and Communication Committee shall be an advisory body to the Executive Board and have the authority to perform the organization, management, and execution of content for ELGL. This includes written content for the ELGL website, the GovLove podcast, and any training opportunities offered by ELGL. At least quarterly the committee will present an update to the Executive Board. Any budget and contract approval must be authorized by the Executive Board.

Governance Committee

Purpose:

The Governance Committee shall be an advisory body to the Executive Board and will provide oversight and guidance for ELGL's finances. In addition, it will provide oversight of ELGL's membership database and provide recommendations to the Executive Board on membership dues, fee structure, and other financial matters.

Authority:

The Governance Committee shall have the authority to review the financial transactions of ELGL, provide feedback to the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Director, and manage ELGL's membership database. The Governance Committee shall review finances and membership data monthly. At least quarterly the committee will present finance and membership status to the Executive Board. Any budget or contract approval must be authorized by the Executive Board.

Up to five (5) individuals may be appointed to the committee by the Executive Board. A majority of the membership of the committee shall be members of the Executive Board. The Treasurer will serve as the Chair of the committee.
