ELGL Standing Committees

ELGL committees are open to members who want to get more involved and help shape the future of the organization. Committee appointments are made by the Executive Board based on availability, interest, and alignment with ELGL’s mission. Most committees meet quarterly or as needed throughout the year.

If you’re ready to contribute your ideas and energy, submit an application to join an ELGL committee and play a role in advancing local government excellence.


Event Planning and Coordination Committee

Oversees the planning and execution of ELGL’s in-person and virtual events.

The Event Planning and Coordination Committee manages ELGL’s events — from digital sessions to in-person conferences — coordinating with speakers, attendees, and other committees when needed. Members help shape the calendar, refine event ideas, and ensure everything runs smoothly. Plans and updates are shared with the Executive Board at least quarterly, and all budgets and contracts are approved by the Board.

Up to nine members serve on the committee, including as many as three Executive Board members. The Chair is appointed by the Board.

GovLove Podcast

Content and Communication Committee

Guides ELGL’s storytelling, podcasts, and digital communications.

The Content and Communication Committee helps steer ELGL’s written and digital content — from website articles and the GovLove podcast to newsletters and training materials. Members support volunteer writers, brainstorm ideas, and coordinate with the Event Committee to ensure consistent messaging across platforms. Quarterly updates are provided to the Executive Board, with budget and contract approvals handled by the Board.

The committee includes up to nine members, including up to three Executive Board members. The Chair is appointed by the Board.

Governance Committee

Provides oversight for ELGL’s finances and membership structure.

The Governance Committee advises the Executive Board on ELGL’s finances and membership programs. Members review monthly financial reports and membership data, offering recommendations on dues, fees, and other financial policies. They also help ensure ELGL’s operations remain transparent and accountable.

The group includes up to five members, most of whom are Executive Board members. The Treasurer serves as Chair.
