Portland, Ore.- Emerging Local Government Leaders (ELGL), a nonprofit focused on innovative local government networking, will present its inaugural annual conference on Friday, Oct. 4 from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McMenamins Kennedy School (5736 NE 33rd Ave., Portland, OR).
“ELGL has grown from 16 members to more than 400 members,” said Kent Wyatt, co-founder of ELGL. “Not only is the conference a chance for our members to gather in one place, but we thought it would be an excellent way for our members to gain some valuable insight into what it takes to be a local government leader.”
The Annual ELGL Conference kicks off with a breakfast presented by Cosgrave Vergeer Kester and closes with a social hour, presented by Johnson Controls. Emerging Local Government Leaders has evolved from an informal organization of 16 “members” in Sept. 2010 to a nonprofit of more than 400 dues paying individual members. ELGL has 18 organization members with three chapters in the Central United States; Central Oregon; Portland Metro; and Willamette Valley. ELGL’s members hold a variety of positions from interns to city managers and attorneys whom all represent the public and private sectors.
ELGL recognizes the path to local government leadership can begin in a variety of disciplines and membership is not limited to those who currently work in management.
