Cities of service

The Cities of Service Engaged Cities Award is an international recognition program that elevates the diverse ways that cities are actively engaging their citizens to solve critical public problems.

Each year, through the Engaged Cities Award, Cities of Service identifies and elevates city-led strategies that most successfully engage citizens to help create and implement solutions to pressing local problems.

The award program recognizes cities that are effectively involving their citizens to reduce community violence, produce better budgets, create safer streets, and build stronger communities.

In 2018, the inaugural year of the award, Cities of Service received more than 100 applications from cities across the Americas and Europe. With help from a panel of experts, Cities of Service selected three winning cities from 10 finalists:

  • Bologna, Italy;
  • Santiago de Cali, Colombia; and
  • Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Each winning city was awarded $70,000 to further the city’s efforts to engage their citizens to tackle problems.

The strategies of the Engaged Cities Award winners and finalists are models for other cities around the world to learn from, adapt, and improve upon.

Cities of Service just published short videos about the three winning cities. They’ve also produced a couple of case studies (we will publish 10 total over the next few months), and a blueprint.

And, the application period for the 2019 award is now open! Apply today!
