Please join the Emerging Local Government Leaders on June 1st at 12:00 p.m. to hear Sarah Jo Chaplen speak on her experience in local government. The luncheon will be held in the Tualatin Library Community Room, located at 18878 SW Martinazzi Avenue, Tualatin, OR 97062.

Bacon Turkey Bravo Sandwich: Smoked turkey, Applewood-smoked bacon, smoked Gouda, lettuce, tomatoes & signature dressing on tomato basil bread.
Asiago Roast Beef Sandwich: Roast beef, smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, & horseradish spread on Asiago cheese demi.
Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich: Peppadew peppers, feta, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & cilantro hummus on tomato basil bread.
Asian Sesame Chicken Salad: Chicken, romaine, cilantro, almonds, sesame seeds wonton strips and reduced-sugar Asian sesame vinaigrette.
BBQ Chopped Chicken Salad: Chicken, romaine roasted corn, black beans, tortilla strips & BBQ ranch dressing, drizzled with BBQ sauce.

Sarah Jo Chaplen
As the Hillsboro City Manager, Sarah Jo Chaplen oversaw the 10-year update of Hillsboro’s 2020 Vision and Action Plan, the formation of a downtown urban renewal plan and the hiring of the city’s first sustainability manager. The city also adopted its first organization-wide strategic plan.
Sarah Jo started working for Hillsboro in 1998 as a senior project manager. She was promoted to Assistant City Manager on January 1, 2007. During her more than 10 years with the city, she managed a multitude of projects including the west side light rail celebration, Y2K and a DEQ order clean-up of a drycleaner site. She also served as the Interim Director of the city’s Information Services Department from April 2004 to January 2006.
Sarah Jo has a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology with a double minor in communications and psychology. Both are from Lewis and Clark College. She is also past president of the Oregon City/County Management Association, a position she held in 2004.
