Please join us on Wednesday, March 7, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. for an ELGL brown bag discussion with Jim Middaugh, communications director at Metro, who will share some insights into the regional government’s innovative communications tools and discuss ideas for how public sector organizations can better engage and build trust with the public through their communications efforts.

Jim came to Metro in 2008 with more than 20 years of experience in policy, public affairs, strategic planning, communications, media relations and stakeholder relations. Under Jim’s leadership, Metro initiated its online newsfeed, hired an in-house news reporter to cover Metro’s activities, and launched Opt In, an online tool to engage a broader and more diverse range of citizens across the region on important and timely topics. Jim will share the insights Metro has gained from the implementation of these tools and discuss challenges that lie ahead.

This meeting will be held at Metro Regional Center, located at 600 NE Grand Avenue in Portland. Transit use, bicycling and carpooling are encouraged. There is metered on-street parking nearby, and parking in the Metro garage costs $6. Metro is located a few blocks south of the Convention Center and NE 7th Avenue MAX stations (served by the red, blue and green lines) and is on the #6 bus line. Free bicycle parking is also available.

This event will not be catered, so you are encouraged to bring your own lunch. One nearby food option is Hoyt Street Station Community Café, located in Metro Regional Center’s north plaza, which is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Please RSVP to oregonelgl@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you there.
