Midwest ELGL held its inaugural Evening Buzz event last night – and wound up with a great turnout! Planning a get-together and not knowing who will attend can be stressful (think of your 5th grade birthday party) – but the Midwest group was pleased so many interesting and engaged professionals came out to see what ELGL is all about.

Professionals from all over the Chicagoland area stopped by, including Oak Park, Downers Grove, Oswego, Hinsdale, Des Plaines, Lombard, LaGrange Park, Naperville, Northlake, Lake Forest, Lockport, Elgin — and we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Jim Lenner, who drove in for the weekend with his family from Johnstown, Ohio. That is commitment, friends.
Pizza was generously provided by ELGL and conversation was easy and casual with the group. We talked about ELGL, how we can all get more involved and how nice it was to connect with other professionals in our field. We also brainstormed future Midwest ELGL events and talked about future blog topics.
What was so nice about this event, many agreed, is how laid back and casual conversation was among the group. Sometimes as local government professionals, we’re so focused on our careers we forget to relax and enjoy our colleagues and peers. ELGL, while offering excellent idea sharing, webinars and networking opportunities, also allows for members to get to know each other as people. That’s part of what we love about ELGL.
The event was a hit – and many asked when we’d host the next Evening Buzz. Midwest ELGL is now planning to host quarterly Evening Buzz events in various locations around the Chicagoland area. Stay tuned for our next one in late August.
