Surry County attractions (with eats) 

1. Downtown Mount Airy (Take a Mayberry Squad Car Tour & eat a Pork Chop Sandwich at Snappy Lunch)
2. Historic Rockford (Check out the circa-1800s former county seat & eat a Bologna & Cheese sandwich at the Rockford General Store)
3. Pilot Mountain (Or drive to the top if you’re not a hiker & pack a picnic)
4. Tour the world’s largest open-face granite quarry in Mount Airy (then go to the Dairy Center and eat a Ground Steak Sandwich or to O’Dell’s Sandwich Shop and eat a Burger Basket)

Fall activities

1. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and look at the changing leaves
2. Go to the Pumpkin Festival in Elkin, NC
3. Visit a Wilkes County, NC apple orchard
4. Take children to a corn maze
