Emerging technologies and trends point to a future where travel will be increasingly electric, connected, and shared among users.  Recent research from the Rocky Mountain Institute suggests urban transportation systems can drastically benefit from this shift in how we move people and goods in our cities, estimating that the US could save nearly $1 trillion annually. PricewaterhouseCoopers recently predicted that autonomous cars could reduce the vehicle fleet from 245 million to just 2.4 million – a reduction by 99%. However, it will require innovative, thoughtful planning to ensure these technologies improve our communities.
How can cities leverage new technologies to solve or manage transit problems? What case studies can those in the planning profession look to when designing for the future? What are other implications for planners, and for the public travelers they serve, in terms of convenience, access, safety, and investments? Our October event will explore these important questions, while providing attendees a deeper understanding of the latest trends in transportation technology.
