Please join us on Thursday, July 12, for an ELGL brown-bag session with former Oregon Governor and current Metro Councilor Barbara Roberts.

Governor Roberts will share some of her insights and valuable lessons learned about leadership through four decades of public service. Prior to her service as Oregon’s first woman governor, she was elected to two terms as Oregon Secretary of State, two terms in the Oregon House of Representatives (which included a term as Majority Leader), and as a director for the Parkrose School District and Mt. Hood Community College. Following her term as Governor, she taught public leadership courses in the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and in the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University.

Currently, in addition to her service on the Metro Council, she is a co-chair of Century of Action: Oregon Women Vote, 1912–2012, and her autobiography, Up the Capitol Steps, was published by OSU Press last fall. Governor Roberts looks forward to sharing her ideas, insights and perspectives with ELGL members.

This event will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at Metro Regional Center, located at 600 NE Grand Avenue in Portland. Transit use, bicycling and carpooling are encouraged. There is metered on-street parking nearby, and parking in the Metro garage costs $6. Metro is located a few blocks south of the Convention Center and NE 7th Avenue MAX stations (served by the red, blue and green lines) and is on the #6 bus line. Free bicycle parking is also available.

This event will not be catered, so you are encouraged to bring your own lunch. One nearby food option is Hoyt Street Station Community Café, located in Metro Regional Center’s north plaza, which is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Please RSVP to Megan Messmer, oregonelgl@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you there. Many thanks to Ken Ray, Metro senior public affairs coordinator.
