“Cross between The Atlantic magazine and Buzzfeed”
Welcome to our new member feature. We’ve all heard the excuse “I’m too busy” so we’ve simplified our feature to illicit short, meaningful responses for our new members. As a side note, ELGL is adamantly opposed to the excuse, “I’m too busy.”
Sara Ott (LinkedIn) is the Township Administrator in Washington Township, OH. Previously, she worked as a senior project manager for the City of Dublin, OH. Sara is a graduate of the Kansas MPA program.
What I Am Watching: I’m watching spring in full bloom! It is beautiful outside so that’s where you can find me.
What I Am Reading:
Gentleman Prefer Blondes by Anita Loos. It’s a great comedic classic.
What I Am Thinking About the Apple Watch: Could they fit that technology inside my pretty little Seiko watch? It would look so much nicer.
What I Want From ELGL:
The #13Percent conversation prompted me to sign up. I want to hear out this conversation from other passionate local government professionals. I also want to meet more people in local government management.
What I Wish Local Government Did Better: Citizen engagement and workplace diversity
What I Am Afraid Of:
Snakes and losing my car keys
What I Wish I Was Doing (Instead of Completing This Questionnaire): Hiking on the Appalachian Trail
What I Consider As My Career Accomplishments: graduating from Leadership ICMA, leading a cool redevelopment project, and hiring interns, lots of interns, to get them started in their own local government careers
What I Am Listening To: AWOLNation
What I Wish People Knew About Me: I’m an introvert – crowds are not my thing!
What I Am Wishing Would Go Away:
What I Think of Professional Associations: They are essential to the public sector. They must stay relevant and be member driven.
What I Am Doing This Summer: When not at the office, I’ll be at the beach or in the mountains with my family and friends.
What I Wished You Asked Me: How I ended up in this career? I’ve been lucky to have fabulous mentors who took an interest in me early and supported me along the way. I wouldn’t be in my job today without them.
