Link: ELGL Spreads Across the Country
Welcome to our new member feature. We’ve all heard the excuse “I’m too busy” so we’ve simplified our feature to illicit short, meaningful responses for our new members. As a side note, ELGL is adamantly opposed to the excuse, “I’m too busy.”
Susie Aguilar is a management analyst for the West Municipal Water District. Susie contributed to the #13Percent series with her article, “The Ball Is In Your Court.”
What I Am Watching: My amazing husband who is reading the newspaper.
What I Am Reading:
Do the Sunday newspaper sales ads count? If not, Runner and Health magazine are next on the menu….
What I Am Thinking About the Apple Watch: I love Apple products, but do I need to spend a pretty penny on another gadget?
What I Want From ELGL: The opportunity to learn and network with diverse people who are just as passionate about their work as I am.
What I Wish Local Government Did Better: I wish local government employees did a better job at realizing the money they spend is rate payer money, so let’s use it as if it was our own checkbook.
What I Am Afraid of: Not leaving a footprint in the world in terms of positive change. Most importantly, I want to be the best mother, wife, daughter, and sister I can be – so I guess I am afraid of failing or disappointing my family.
What I Wish I Was Doing (Instead of Completing This Questionnaire):
Packing for our family vacation in Hawaii coming up in July.
What I Consider As My Career Accomplishments: Pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree (most of it as a single mother and the tail end of my studies I was planning our wedding), then my Master’s Degree, and now considering a Doctorate’s. Also, taking the lead on recreating our District’s job descriptions (almost 60) amidst the departure of our HR Manager at the time. And yes, they were completed successfully, although an extremely long process for one person to undertake.
What I Am Listening To: The crazy and annoying crows outside my house!
What Song/Movie Makes Me Cry:
With a 10 year old, we watch a lot of kids movies, but for some reason the first adult movie that came to mind was when Big left Carrie at the altar in “Sex and the City”!
What I Wish People Knew About Me: I have a strong professional ethic, yet, I love to have fun and have a good time. Did I also mention I love to learn new things? It should be no surprise that all weekend I was pulling electrical conduit from my master bath to the main electrical panel with my husband. Oh yes, the joys of home ownership and doing a master bath remodel. Good times!
What I Am Wishing Would Go Away: The aches and pains from crawling around in cramped spaces while pulling electrical conduit all weekend! Tylenol anyone?????
What I Think of Professional Associations: There are so many to choose from, making it utterly important for each one to advertise what makes them unique.
What I Am Doing This Summer:
Did I mention Hawaii……aloha snorkeling, surfing, fireworks, and exotic fruits.
What I Wished You Asked Me: What’s your perspective on work/life balance and how do you achieve it?
