Before you leave for #ELGL17, what’s the biggest project facing you at work?

The big project I’m most excited about is a series of web-videos I’m working on with the League of Women in Government and The Bureau of Justice Assistance about gender balance in policing. I’ve had the opportunity to interview police chiefs, law enforcement experts, city managers and others about the impact of gender balance in policing. Also, National Research Center, Inc. (NRC) recognizes a need for a national benchmarking survey specifically for police departments, besides the custom specialty surveys we already do. So we are in the beginning stages of developing a survey that will help police departments better connect with their residents, comply with federal guidelines and allow them to measure their performance in context with each other.

Window, middle, or aisle – which is your preferred seat on an airplane?

I like the window seat so I can enjoy the omniscient view of the mountains as I start and end my journey.

When I think of Detroit, I think about…

The fact that Detroit is home to the largest number of African American comic-book superheroes, like Firestorm, the fourth Green Lantern and Vixen.

What’s the best article or book that you’ve read about Detroit?

This blog article from Curbed lists 11 great books about Detroit.  There are creative works anthologies, historical reference texts and even self-help titles in here. I haven’t read them yet, but I think a couple on this list would make for the perfect read on the airplane.

Detroit is the home of ‘Motown’. If you started a Motown group, what would you name it?

I know some very talented singers with sultry voices. I’d gather a few of them up and we’d be The Sistahood. I’m a big karaoke fan and I already have a Motown wig, so I’m ready.

Who is the most famous person in your cell phone contacts?

Maybe the most famous one is Ashley Colburn.  Ashley is a two-time Emmy award winner and is globally known as host and producer of her travel shows, Takeoff with Ashley Colburn and WONDERS. She’s awesome and you should check out her shows.  Or maybe Ryan Avery.  He’s the youngest ever Toastmasters champion, a book author, keynote speaker and does public speaking trainings all over the world. If you ever need a good keynote speaker at an event, I highly recommend Ryan.

What question(s) should we have asked?

What are you most excited for at #ELGL17?  Great answer!  You should Tweet that ^_~.
