Before you leave for #ELGL17, what’s the biggest project facing you at work?

Buying a funeral home to renovate into a new town hall so our existing municipal building can be turned into a craft brewery and taproom.

Window, middle, or aisle – which is your preferred seat on an airplane?

Always aisle.

When I think of Detroit, I think about…

Motown.

What’s the best article or book that you’ve read about Detroit?

I don’t think it has been written yet; Detroit’s best days are still in the future and there will be lots more to read after the current renaissance has evolved some more. But I recently read an article in This Old House about a couple renovating a gorgeous 1939 house that had been in foreclosure and long neglected. It seems that Detroit and so many other urban cores are going to rely on many acts of fortitude like this one where people put their personal fortunes at stake and align them with the community’s future.

Detroit is the home of ‘Motown’. If you started a Motown group, what would you name it?

I would go in a different direction and play off of Kid Rock. Except I would be more honest with myself and call myself, “Middle Aged Rock”

Who is the most famous person in your cell phone contacts?

The Lynn Tetley of the People’s Republic of Wyoming, Ohio.

What question(s) should we have asked?

What will you do in Detroit on Friday night?

I am hoping to get five more nerds together to play the board game Diplomacy with me and the famous Lynn Tetley.  Nothing brings people together more than a cut-throat board game with lying, cheating, and back-stabbing.
