Local Government is FUNdamental

ELGL is delivering the August 3 keynote presentation at the Center for Priority Based Budgeting (CPBB) conference in Denver, Colorado, and we’re really excited to try a new presentation format that should be lively, fun and interactive. Here’s the skinny:

CPBB has long been one of ELGL’s best friends and this will be the third year in a row that we’re partnering with them for their conference. And while CPBB is primarily an opportunity to learn more about building a priority based budget, it’s also a great conference where they want attendees to think big and bold about local government trends and concepts.

And so, ELGL is focusing our session at the conference on some of the trends and concepts that makes working at the local level so interesting and rewarding. We’re calling the session, “Local Government is Fundamental” – with an emphasis on fun.

  • We’ve invited nine amazing panelists to participate.
  • Our panelists will be divided into three teams of three people each.
  • The teams are feverishly working together to come up with a team name, and develop their sections of the presentation.
  • There are four rounds in the session, with each round based on a local government theme:
    • Technology
    • Infrastructure
    • Leisure
    • Human Capital
  • In each round, each team will share/describe the most fun, interesting, creative, amazing, incredible example from local government that relates to that theme.
  • At the end of each round, the audience will vote for their favorite example using our cool new text based polling system, and the winning team will get a point.
  • We’ll continue through all four rounds, and when we’re done, the audience will have twelve innovative ideas to take back to their cities and share.

And perhaps most importantly, we’re giving nine people the chance to present at a professional conference, which aligns with our goal of helping our members develop their resumes and add public speaking opportunities, regardless of their level of local government experience.

For those of you who can’t attend CPBB, we’ll share each team’s ideas in real time on Twitter, including some Twitter polling so stay tuned on August 3 as we share the ways that local government is fundamental.
